Saturday, September 22, NSEA held an amazing #RedforEd Town Hall and Meet the Candidates event at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino. The event was a success and one that members will be remembering for a long time.
Steve Sisolak kicked off the event by welcoming attendees to the town hall, sharing that the NSEA Board of Directors endorsed him for Governor. Reiterating his commitment to education and touching upon the crises public education faces, he passionately shared that “Every child, no matter race, color or zip code, deserve a quality education!”
Regarding the current funding formula that funnels into the Distributive School Accounts (DSAs), Sisolak’s position is “No to ESAs and yes to a modernized, effective funding formula.”
He vowed to protect union rights saying, “It will be vetoed if anyone tries to roll back collective bargaining.” Sisolak voiced his commitment to supporting teachers and education support professionals by saying, “We will find a dedicated funding stream” in regard to salaries. He also promised a funding solution wouldn’t be what he described as “one good year and another not.”
